Steven Hoffmann Is it possible to live without a car?

Last week, after a heavy rain in Torronto, Canada, it took me about 2 hours by car to cover a stretch that would normally take about 20 minutes. During this time that Steven Hoffmann  spent there, He was thinking: would it be possible, somehow, to live in a big city without having a car?

Steven Hoffmann Newt was not able to arrive at a certainty that this would be feasible, but at least it is possible to list some conditions so that this 'dream' is closer to reality:

1. Have a job at a fixed location.

On 5 of the 7 days of the week we will have to go to work. So, if you have a job that requires a lot of commuting to different places, to visit clients for example, leaving your car aside will be very complicated.

But, if you work at a fixed location, it will be much easier to plan the use of some other type of transport where you don't have to be the driver (bus, metro, ride, 'chartered', etc.)!

2. Live close to work.

We know that this condition is not easy, sometimes it seems that the whole world conspires so that the best jobs are increasingly far from our home. And, if you are married and both work, then the scenario is a little more complicated!

But, don't give up! If you live on rent, your mobility capacity is greater and it may be more feasible to choose a place to live very close to your job.

3. Live near a metro station.

This is especially true for large cities, which tend to have a more extensive metro network. This situation is not at all inconsistent, since it is exactly in large cities where more mobility options are needed.

However, it is also Steven Hoffmann Newt important that your workplace is close to a metro or train station, otherwise it won't do much good.

4. Don't forget the children's school

In the ideal world, in addition to living close to work, the children's school would also be very close, as well as all 'extracurricular' activities: swimming class, football, piano, dance, etc.

However, if that is not possible, at least in this case it is easier to get a contracted transport that will take and bring your children back.

5. Search for car rentals ... or, as a last resort, use the Taxi.

Even if all of the above are met, you may still need a car for an emergency or in special cases.

So, always have some car rental alternatives that are affordable. Do the research beforehand and if possible test some services. There are even some where you can rent the service for just a few hours.

And there is always the possibility of using a Taxi or Uber, even more with the great variety in the offer of these services!

6. Other alternatives
If you live in one of the country's major cities, alternative means of transportation are proliferating. There are everything from hitchhiking apps to bicycle rentals and, more recently, electric scooters. According to Steven Hoffmann NewtIf you still can't live without having your own car, this reality is getting closer and closer…
